Visual Impairment

The  Department of Adult Social Services provides a rehabilitation service to anyone with a sight problem which is causing difficulties with activities of daily living.

There is a team of qualified Rehabilitation Officers for Visual Impairment who carry out assessments. Following assessment, advice and training may be given in daily living skills, mobility (indoor and outdoor), Braille, Moon and typing. Information is also available on eye conditions, equipment and other agencies.

Rehabilitation classes are held two mornings a week. Members of the team may also teach a person in their own home should they find it difficult to attend classes. For details, contact the Central Advice and Duty Team.
