Welcome To Wirral
Community Transport
The Department of Adult Social Services provides a transport service to help people who cannot travel by public transport and who do not have access to alternative forms of transport; to access those services they have been assessed as needing, e.g. Day Services, Luncheon Club etc.
A person's need for transport is identified during their assessment.
The in house transport fleet consists of accessible passenger vehicles or minibuses which are operated by qualified and experienced Drivers and Attendants. All vehicles are usually replaced after 6 years service. This ensures that all vehicles are able to offer the latest specialist equipment for example wheelchair clamps and restraints. This equipment will be of the highest quality and standard.
Service Standards
The standards of service and care you can expect when using Department of Adult Social Services Transport are listed below. Please let us have any comments or suggestions on ways to improve our services.
You are entitled to expect that:
- We will treat you with the utmost care and consideration, dignity and respect and will be friendly and helpful at all times.
- You will be able to get on and off the vehicle either by the passenger door or passenger lifts. This will depend upon your mobility and which you feel most comfortable with. For your own safety, you will be given help to get on and off the vehicle.
- When you arrive at or leave a centre, staff from the centre will be available to help you on and off the vehicle.
- All vehicles will be fitted with seat belts and staff will help you with fastening and unfastening seat belts, if you need it. Please help us to make your journey safer by wearing your seat belt. If there is a reason why you cannot wear a seat belt, you should discuss it with staff at the centre
- Help will be given to you to get to and from the vehicle if you need it. If you want to do this by yourself or want to be dropped off at a different place, let staff at the centre know and it will be written into your Care Plan.
- We aim for 9 out of 10 journeys to be completed in 45 minutes or less. Every attempt will be made to maintain this target but sometimes road, traffic and weather conditions may prevent this. Another reason transport may be delayed is if someone is not quite ready when the driver goes to pick them up people who use our services/parents/carers will be notified of any delays wherever possible.
- We will try to keep roughly the same times of pick up and drop off. Sometimes road and traffic conditions make this difficult to achieve. Attempts will be made to pick up and drop off as near to your home as possible.
- For your comfort and safety, a No Smoking Policy is in force on all transport provided by the Department of Adult Social Services.
- All staff will be issued with an official Wirral Council identity card and will wear the full uniform provided
- All staff will treat any problems or concerns you may have in a confidential manner.
- Attendants will go with you on some transport provided. The Attendants work with the driver and will offer any help you may require whilst on the vehicle.
- The Department of Adult Social Services may also be able to provide attendants for people, on a one to one basis, who have more specific needs or extreme difficulties. This service is very limited and cannot be guaranteed.
- In the event of an accident, staff will summon assistance, either from the centre or emergency services, depending upon the seriousness of the accident.
