Welcome To Wirral
Wirral Archives Service
Wirral Archives Service cares for and offers public access to thousands of historical records relating to the history of the Wirral. Researchers are welcome to consult original documents and other sources free of charge.
We can provide records for those interested in family history, local history, and maritime and industrial history.
Wirral Archives Service was founded in 1974 upon the creation of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, a borough of Merseyside. Previously the Wirral peninsula had been a subdivision (or ‘hundred’) of the County of Cheshire.
In 2008 Wirral Archives Service moved to a state of the art facility in the Cheshire Lines building on Canning Street in Birkenhead, not far from Hamilton Square station.
Wirral Archive Service will provide a series of monthy Saturday morning workshops - more information can be found on the Workshops page.

It will also be a forum for our users to let us know what they want from Wirral Archives Service, and an opportunity for them to help us to achieve it! If you are interested please just send an e-mail to archives@wirral.gov.uk and someone will contact you with more information
