Welcome To Wirral

Introduction to Merseyside Youth Games

In 1991, the Merseyside Youth Games was a weekend event, of fourteen sport competitions with a total of 1200 competitors. Over the years, the Merseyside Youth Games has grown into a series of all year round sports development programmes, involving as many as 49,000 young people per year in training, trials and competitions, in sports clubs and schools across a range of sports.

The six boroughs (Wirral, Liverpool, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, Halton) which make up the Merseyside Sports Partnership, demonstrate what can be achieved by working across boundaries and as a result, a number of collaborative projects are on the increase.

Sport England are also committed to the continuation and development of the games and support the Merseyside Sports Partnership in their aim to ensure young people enjoy sport and achieve their best!

The weekend is a great family day for anyone and everyone! It offers opportunities to all young people to compete in their chosen sport, which hopefully they will continue in the future.
