Welcome To Wirral

Historic Sites and Monuments

Many of the older buildings in Wirral, as well as a small number of the more recent ones, are Listed Buildings. This means that they have been put on the "List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest" by experts from English Heritage and the Department of the Environment, as they are thought to be worth special protection for the future.

There are over 1,800 listed buildings and structures in Wirral. These form part of its special character and history and are an asset not only to the local area but to the nation. These building have a special protected status under the law.

The Council aims to work with owners and occupiers to ensure that these important buildings are retained for the enjoyment of current and future generations.
