Wirral Archives Service will reopen on Monday 1 September 2008.

The Service now occupies new and improved state-of-the-art premises in the Cheshire Lines building. The new address is:

Please note that access to the Service is via Shore Road.

Opening Hours

Our new extended opening hours will be:

Monday to Friday, 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

Finding Your Way to Wirral Archives Service…

…by rail

Trains operate from Liverpool Lime Street mainline station and other city centre stations (every 5 - 8 minutes), from Chester (every 30 minutes), from Ellesmere Port (every 30 minutes), from New Brighton (every 15 minutes), and from West Kirby (every 15 minutes) to Hamilton Square Station (providing a 5 – 8 minute service to Liverpool) on the Wirral Line.

From Hamilton Square Station turn left onto Hamilton Street, cross Bridge Street, cross Canning Street, and continue down Hamilton Street. At the bottom of Hamilton Street turn left through the stone arch onto Shore Road. Continue down Shore Road and turn left onto the forecourt of the Cheshire Lines building. Walk the length of the forecourt to the base of the wall opposite. The entrance is to your left.

 

…by bus

From Birkenhead Bus Station (serviced by 63 bus routes) you can catch over 30 bus services that pass and stop at bus stops on Hamilton Square. From Hamilton Square walk to Hamilton Square Station and follow the instructions as above.

 

…by bicycle

Accompanied cycles can be carried on all trains, subject to space being available (there may be restrictions at peak times), from Liverpool, Chester and Ellesmere Port to Hamilton Square Station.

 

…by road

Before you travel to Wirral Archives Service, please consider if you really need to use your car.

Via the M53 from North Wales / Chester / Ellesmere Port to the Cheshire Lines building, Canning Street, Birkenhead

Leave the M53 at the Wallasey Docks exit after junction 1, and follow the signposted A5139 (the Dock Road). Follow the A5139 Dock Road for approximately 1¾ miles through the traffic lights, and at the roundabout take the third exit onto the A554 (Four Bridges, later Tower Road), signposted Birkenhead.

At the next roundabout take the second exit onto the A554 (signposted Birkenhead). At the next roundabout take the second exit onto the A554 (signposted Hamilton Square), which leads to Canning Street.

Pass the Twelve Quays campus on your left. Just before the Cheshire Lines Building turn right up Argyle Street on your left, and then take the first left on to Bridge Street. Bridge Street car park is on the left.

On foot turn left onto Bridge Street, turn left again onto Hamilton Street, and follow the instructions above.

 

Via the Wallasey (Kingsway) Tunnel to the Cheshire Lines building, Canning Street, Birkenhead

From the Wallasey Tunnel Westbound branch left, and then at the roundabout take the first exit onto the A5027, signposted to Birkenhead. At the traffic signals turn left onto the A5139 (Dock Road).

At the roundabout take the third exit onto the A554 (Four Bridges, later Tower Road), signposted Birkenhead. At the next roundabout take the second exit onto the A554 (signposted Birkenhead). At the next roundabout take the second exit onto the A554 (signposted Hamilton Square), which leads to Canning Street.

On foot, turn left onto Bridge Street, turn left again onto Hamilton Street, and follow the instructions above.

 

Parking

There is no external parking available at Cheshire Lines (apart from disabled parking).

In addition to the Bridge Street car park car users may use the pay and display public car parks available near Conway Park Station and on Cleveland Street.

If you require disabled parking at Cheshire Lines, please let us know in advance and we will be happy to arrange this for you.
