Welcome To Wirral
National Year of Reading
National Year of Reading 2008 aims to help build a greater national passion for reading in England – for children, families and adult learners alike.

Led by the National Literacy Trust, The Reading Agency and other literary and community partners, it wants to encourage people to read in businesses, homes, and communities around the country, providing new opportunities to read and helping people to access help and support through schools and libraries.
Here in Wirral, there will be initiatives around readingf from Wirral’s Libraries, the Children and Young People’s Department and the “Get into Reading” organisation. Other local agencies and community groups are also being encouraged to get involved.
Wirral schools are already celebrating the year with a wide variety of events: the library service are running an exciting programme of events – including this week’s BookFest – and the Get into Reading organisation have a range of events planned, culminating in a Shakespeare performance in Birkenhead Park in August.
