Housing Strategy Areas
Housing Market Renewal Initiative (HMRI)
HMRI is a Government initiative which aims to tackle the problems of housing market failure, mainly in the private sector. This includes housing in poor condition and large scale abandonment in areas where there are high levels of empty properties or unpopular housing.
Wirral is part of the Merseyside Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder called Newheartlands which is one of nine pathfinders throughout England. Birkenhead, Tranmere and Seacombe together with parts of the Bidston and Liscard Wards will benefit from the initiative. Click here for further information and for a map of the HMRI area.
Grants for privately owned properties may be awarded at our discretion, which are identified as regeneration or strategy areas, which Council members have decided should receive priority.
- Ten Streets Pilot Regeneration Initiative
This is situated within the HMRI area. This scheme is an "acquisition for demolition" pilot initiative under the Housing Corporation New Tools programme, and no grant aid is available in this case.

The Tranmere grants waiting list was closed on 17th July 2003. All enquiries received before this date will be processed.
We will deal with your enquiry and application forms will be issued, to be fair and equitable to all residents, on a chronological basis i.e. using the date on which you applied, as soon as financial resources allow. You will be means tested to assess your financial situation.
