Renovation/Home Repair Assistance

Providing funding is available, it may be possible to award grants for privately owned homes. You will need to have lived at your present address for at least three years and you will be means tested to assess your financial situation.

 

This type of grant will only be considered where there is an immediate risk to the health and safety of your family caused by repairs required in your home for one or more of the following reasons :-

a) risk of electric shock or fire as a result of a defective installation.

 

 b) risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, however

i) work will be limited to the removal of the defective appliance if power sockets are available to provide a heat source, or

ii) if a suitable gas point is available for the connection of a gas fire, except

iii) where the gas appliance is the only means of providing constant hot water.

 

c) the repair or replacement of a domestic hot water heating appliance in accommodation occupied by elderly people or young children.

 

d) risk of imminent structural collapse of part of the building.

 

e) properties with collapsed drains causing sewage discharge when remedial works are not covered by property insurance.

 

f) rainwater penetration into occupied bedroom, bathroom or kitchen, or around a light fitting.
