Home in multiple occupancy
The Council operates a licensing regime for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs). This means that owners or mangers of certain HMOs will have to be licenced in order for them to operate the property.
The Housing Act 2004 commenced on 6th April 2006 and amongst other things, brought into effect Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs). This will generally affect the following type of property:
Three or more storeys (storey includes basements, loft conversions and mezzanine levels)
AND
occupied by five or more tenants, forming two or more households, having shared facilities (e.g. WC's, Kitchens etc.)
