Wirral Home Improvement Agency
The Wirral Home Improvement Agency (WHIA) is a not-for-profit, locally based organisation that assists vulnerable homeowners or private sector tenants who are older (over 60), disabled or on low income to repair, improve, maintain or adapt their home. By improving people’s living conditions, WHIA enhances their quality of life and enables them to remain in their home in greater comfort and security.
They also offer a wide range of services including:-
- Advice
- Assistance with obtaining plans/drawings
- Production of schedules of works
- Liaison with building control, planning and other service providers
- Assistance in obtaining quotations from reputable contractors
- Costing and expenditure
- Provision of appropriate building contracts and documentation
- Supervision of building works from start to completion
- Assistance with adaptations
- Can assist with a Disabled Facilities Grant
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I CONTACT YOU?
- We will ask for information about how you would like the Agency to assist you
- You will receive a phone call or letter arranging an appointment for an officer to come and visit you.
- At the visit the officer will explain the service and offer advice and assistance if required
WHAT DO I HAVE TO PAY?
- No charge is made for the initial visit
- There would be a fee charged if you wish to proceed with any building works
- If you are receiving a grant the fee may be included in the grant
Our core strength is that we demonstrate a real and perceived independence from any other statutory body and our sole focus on meeting the needs and objectives of our client group. It is this strength which enables them to diversify into additional services, such as the Handyperson Service.
All services are delivered in a people centred way that address the housing, social care and health needs of the clients group.
