Home adaptations
Adaptations are changes which promote your safety in the home and enable you to live there more independently, whatever your disability.
Adaptations are changes in the home which promote your safety and enable you to live there more independently, for example, handrails, ramps, hoists or lifts. If you have a permanent physical disability, we may be able to adapt your home when an occupational therapist's assessment shows that this is necessary to help you to stay at home. We can carry out adaptations to privately rented ,and privately owned properties.
Financial help is available for adaptations costing more than £1200. But the financial help we can offer will depend on the amount of income and savings you have. We can also assist you if you want to consider re-housing in a more appropriate property.
When Adult Social Services have done an assessment but you do not meet the criteria for an adaptation we can supply information about different suppliers of stair lifts, ramps, accessible toilets, showers, baths, and handrails.
For Information & Advice contact the Central Advice and Duty Team Telephone 0151 606 2006.
The team are able to provide general information and advice and where appropriate take referrals for Adult Social Services for detailed enquires and requests for a service.
