Welcome To Wirral

Deeside - Wirral Country Park

The Dee coastline and estuary is one of the most important bird life sites in Britain and Europe. Wirral Country Park was the first country park in England and is a popular destination, welcoming over 250,000 visitors per year.

Over recent years, the Council has been successful in securing funds to deliver two phases of improvement to the Wirral Way wich runs through the park. The Council is also keen to develop a project which involves a major scheme of improvement and upgrading to Wirral Country Park’s visitor facilities.

The visitor centre acts as the hub for the park with visitor information, interpretation, toilet and refreshment facilities. However, the existing centre is looking tired and is in need of significant investment to bring it up to a level befitting this location and the volume of visitors received. Wirral Council is seeking grant funding towards a proposed £3m scheme of investment which will include:

• Creation of a new visitor complex with improved exhibition/meeting space, interpretation and refreshment facilities

• Improved access and facilities for disabled people and families

• Increased all-year round parking provision

• Improved landscaping and furniture
