Welcome To Wirral

Reducing noise

There's nothing like noise and nuisance for destroying people's quality of life.

Local Agenda 21 emphasises the importance of personal responsibility in making sure your local environment is pleasant for everyone. Nowhere can be this more important than in making sure that your definition of a reasonable level of noise does not constitute a nuisance for someone else!

We realise how intrusive excessive noise can be, from business or domestic properties:

  • To help us minimise the nuisance caused by intrusive noise levels across Wirral, we inspect industrial and domestic premises and sites and look at the noise-creation potential of new developments on Wirral.
  • We continuously monitor noise levels at various places in Wirral to make sure they don't break the law.

Key actions for the future:

Council tenants are asked to sign a pledge undertaking to be good neighbours when they rent a property from us - and that includes keeping the noise down to a reasonable level. Our Neighbour Nuisance Strategy has been welcomed by tenants' groups around Wirral, and will continue to safeguard the rights of our tenants to a peaceful existence without being bothered by the excesses of a minority.
