Waste plan public consultation
The Joint Waste Development Plan Document (Waste DPD) for Merseyside and Halton will set out a planning strategy for sustainable waste management that extends to 2025.
The six councils of Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral are preparing the Joint Waste DPD for the sub region. The purpose of the Joint Waste DPD is to enable the adequate provision of waste management facilities (including disposal) in appropriate locations for municipal, commercial and industrial, construction, demolition and excavation, and hazardous wastes.
Spatial Strategy and Sites Report – Open for Public Consultation
The report focuses on the overall approach to deal with Merseyside and Halton’s waste management challenge and suggests some sites that may be suitable for new waste management facilities.
Public consultation on the Spatial Strategy and Sites Report runs from 17th November 2008 to 9th January 2009. Comments on the Spatial Strategy and Sites Report are being invited. You can do this in writing or online by registering at the website above. Comments will need to be received by 9 January, 2009. A Results of Consultation Report will be published early 2009.
A public meeting is being held to give you the opportunity to find out more about the Spatial Strategy and Sites Report as well as information on Merseyside and Halton’s waste plan. Venue: Wallasey Town Hall, Civic Hall, Brighton Street, Wallasey, CH44 8ED; Date: 9 December 2008; Time: 6.00 – 7.30 pm.

Where can you find the Spatial Strategy and Sites Report?
You can download, view and comment on the report by visiting www.wasteplanningmerseyside.gov.uk.
Copies of the documents will also be available to view in public libraries throughout the Borough and at the public counter of the Technical Services Department, Cheshire Lines Building, Canning Street, Birkenhead, CH41 1ND, during normal opening times. What happens next?
The comments received during consultation on the Spatial Strategy and Sites Report, together with further technical assessments, investigations and discussion with stakeholders, will inform the development of the Joint Waste DPD Preferred Options Report. This will then be published for public consultation in summer 2009 where you will be able to make comments again.
