Wirral Housing Land Availability April 2007
In accordance with national policy in Planning Policy Statement 3 – Housing, the Council is required to show the availability of a 5 year supply of land suitable for new housing development, at the rate set out in the Regional Spatial Strategy (currently RPG13 Regional Planning Guidance for the North West).

The Council publishes a schedule of sites with planning permission, allocated in the Unitary Development Plan or currently under construction and a statement summarising the availability of land to provide new housing as at April 1st each year. In due course, this schedule will be replaced by a full Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA prepared in accordance with national advice at http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/planningandbuilding/landavailabilityassessment ).

The Council has agreed to produce a SHLAA, to support the Local Development Framework (LDF) process. In addition to sites with planning permission and sites in the National Land Use Database, the SHLAA will consider the sites submitted to the Council as part of its ‘call for sites’ exercise undertaken in 2007 in support of the LDF process and sites identified through the Wirral Employment Land Study (due to report in June 2008).
