Welcome To Wirral
Design and Construction
The Council undertakes design and construction of major coastal works. See Development of the Wirral Coastline for details of these works.
Grants are claimed from Defra or the Environment Agency for expensive civil engineering works and studies. It can take several years for schemes to advance from planning stage to construction as the impact on the coast, people and environment have to be taken into account. All major coastal works have to be financially sustainable. The last major scheme undertaken by the Council was the Mersey River Wall Stabilisation Scheme, completed in 2001.
The Council also undertakes studies, consulting with the public, to determine the best way of managing Wirral’s coast and coastal defence structures.
The Council will be consulting with the public during the Review of the Shoreline Management Plan, which is due to be completed by 2010. If you would like to be involved in this consultation either call Streetscene on 0151 606 2004, email streetscene@wirral.gov.uk or click on the “Request Service” button.
