Interim Planning Policy For New Housing Development

Restricted Planning Permissions For New Housing Development

Wirral Council has restricted planning permissions for new housing development in the west of the Borough since December 2003.

Although this policy has been successful in restricting new development in the west, residents have been concerned about the amount of new housing development being proposed in the east of the Borough, particularly in the area from Bidston Hill through to Prenton.

A draft policy to further control new housing development across the Borough was made subject to public consultation during Autumn 2005. The consultation period finished on 15 September 2005. The results of the consultation were reported to the Council's Economic Regeneration and Planning Strategy Select Committee on 13th October 2005 and to the Council's Cabinet on 20th October 2005.

The Council's Cabinet adopted the new policy for development control purposes on 20th October 2005 and the new policy came into force on 30 October 2005.

The aim of the new policy is to focus new housing development into the Housing Market Renewal Initiative Area in Rock Ferry, Tranmere, Birkenhead and Seacombe and other regeneration priority areas.

The adopted policy can be viewed at the link below, in the One-Stop Shop at Wallasey Town Hall, Brighton Street, Wallasey CH44 8ED and at the Technical Services Department, Cheshire Lines Building, Canning Street, Birkenhead CH41 1ND between 9 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday (except Bank Holiday).
