Welcome To Wirral
Biodiversity on Wirral
Variety of life, or biodiversity, is one of Wirral's greatest assets and something that everyone who lives, works and visits the peninsula should know about.
Our spectacular and unique area includes estuaries, clay cliffs, sand dunes, ancient woods, ponds, heathland, marsh and meadows.
These support a huge variety of plants and animals including seals, natterjack toads, great crested newts, rare birds and dozens of species of unusual plants and invertebrates.
Wirral has its own Biodiversity Steering group that is supported by Council Officers. Wirral is part of the Cheshire region Countdown programme , the Local Biodiversity Action Plan Process for the Cheshire region.
