Welcome To Wirral
Education Social Welfare Service
Wirral’s Educational Social Welfare Service offers qualified social work to support parents in their legal duty to make sure that their children go to school. They do this through a series of actions which involve working with schools, families and other agencies.
The strategies used include one-to-one support and group work with children and parents tackling the sometimes complicated issues behind children not going to school.
Education social workers are concerned that every child receives full-time education and try to provide support so that children can benefit from the education facilities we provide. They act as a link between home and school.
As well as their duties to do with attendance, education social workers have responsibilities for children who are in part-time employment and entertainment. They have close links with schools and other agencies involved in managing child-protection issues.
They can also advise on the various forms of help which are available such as free school meals, grants towards school clothing and free travel to and from school.
The Service has five projects currently working in primary schools, secondary schools and in the community.
