Education
Wirral Hearing Support Service (part of Wirral’s Special Education Support Service):
A team of teachers of the deaf & specialist teaching assistants who provide a range of support for deaf children/young people aged 0 – 19 and families from diagnosis onwards. We work in schools and homes right across Wirral, teaching deaf children and/or supporting & advising families/settings/schools about their children’s education.

Wirral Parent Partnership:
Wirral Parent Partnership is an information, support and advice service for parents/carers of children with special educational needs. We enable parents/carers to become more involved in discussions relating to their children's educational development.

Health
Paediatric Audiology:
The Paediatric Audiology Department provides a comprehensive service which includes screening, diagnosis and ongoing hearing aid provision from 0 - 19 years. We have a team of doctors and audiologists based at the Child Development Centre, Clatterbridge Hospital. We are part of the Wirral Services for Child Health (Wirral University Teaching Hospital).

Speech & Language Therapy:
The specialist speech & language therapist (SALT)
provides a service in homes, schools and clinics which includes assessment, advice and intervention for deaf children in Wirral. The specialist SALT is based at St Catherine’s Hospital in Birkenhead.

Social Care
Wirral Children’s Social Care:
Where there is a need for an assessment, parents should initially contact the Central Advice & Duty Team. They will take basic information from you and pass information to the appropriate team, which will be determined by the complexity of your child’s needs. Support will generally be offered to promote a child’s identity and social inclusion, or for the parent/carer, subject to their separate needs for assistance as carers.

Connexions
Wirral Connexions Service:
Connexions can offer young people all the advice and information they need so that they can make the right choices for the future. We have teams of specially trained Personal Advisers available to give them free, confidential guidance and support on all the options available to them. The service can be available to young people with a learning difficulty or disability from the age of 13 up to the age of 25.

Equipment for the Home
Merseyside Society for Deaf People (MSDP):
MSDP can provide an assessment and provision of equipment service that will promote the independence of your deaf child. For example, alerting devices, telephone amplifiers, hearing loops and textphones. Our service in Wirral is based at The Laurie’s Centre, Claughton Road, Birkenhead.

Travel Passes
Mersey Travel:
If your child is eligible, the travel pass will allow you to travel free of charge on buses, trains and ferries within Merseyside at any time of day. To obtain a pass your child must be registered as severely or profoundly deaf. Please note: in all groups your permanent address must be within Merseyside.
