Food Policy for Schools

A review of the current Children's and Young People's Department's Food Policy for School Meals is currently taking place. The new document is being prepared as a reference tool for Head Teachers, Governing Bodies, the School Community, and those charged with the provision of school meals in Local Authority schools.

It is being produced by the Metro Catering Services in consultation with the following partners:

  • Wirral Health Promoting Schools
  • Health Links - Specialist Health Promotion Service
  • Community Dental Services
  • Community Nutrition and Dietetic Services
  • Bebington and West Wirral Primary Care Trust
  • Birkenhead and Wallasey Primary Care Trust

The policy incorporates mandatory National Nutritional Standards for School Lunches.

The aim of the document is to provide nutritional objectives and guidance for the provision and delivery of school meals in Wirral and to ensure the quality of the school meals' service. The policy will be reviewed bi-annually.
