Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED)
OFSTED is a government department that inspects schools, further education, teacher training, funded nursery education in pre-school playgroups, day nurseries, private nursery schools and independent schools.
OFSTED’s Early Years Directorate also has a specific responsibility to register and inspect daycare services for under 8s, including childminders, pre-school playgroups, day nurseries, private nursery schools, crèches and out of school schemes.
Such services are registered and inspected against the National Standards for Daycare and Childminding. Information on the standards can be found on OFSTED’s website.
