Welcome To Wirral
Music
There are opportunities within schools for children to learn musical instruments or have voice lessons provided by the Wirral Schools’ Music Service in groups. Music is a very popular subject at GCSE and A level.
As well as school ensembles, music is offered on an area basis at three Saturday morning music centres and a mid-week centre.
Bebington - Bebington High School
Deeside - Pensby High School for Boys
Wallasey - Oldershaw School
Birkenhead - (Mid week) Joseph Paxton Campus
The centres provide string, orchestral, wind and brass groups as well as theory and aural tuition.
Pupils can audition, to become members of the Wirral Schools’ Brass Band, The Wirral Schools' Big Band, The Wirral Schools' Concert Band and The Wirral Schools' Orchestras. There are also similar groups at a lower level. These groups regularly go on concert tours abroad and are involved with regional and national festivals of music.
Parents are charged an amount for lessons and the associated activities, and can get financial support if they receive Income Support or Family Tax Credits (this only if they receive free prescriptions due to financial reasons).
You can get further details about tuition, the music centres and our ensembles from the Music Service Telephone: 0151 488 7690.
