Welcome To Wirral

Excellence in Cities Plan

The Excellence in Cities programme will complement the Children & Young People's Department's aims as outlined and delivered through the priorities identified in the Children & Young People's Plan. The focus on raising attainment, achievement and extending opportunities is underpinned by a desire to raise the aspirations of all adults and young people involved in the education service and the wider community.

The programme will also contribute to the three key priorities outlined in the Wirral Council Best Value Performance Plan. These are:

  • Jobs: We want to create local employment opportunities, to attract and retain the private sector.
  • Services: We want to secure the delivery of high quality services our customers want.
  • Regeneration: We want to ensure the social, economic, cultural and environmental well-being of Wirral; we aim to make Wirral attractive, safe and healthy.”

The Excellence in Cities core principles are to:

(i) Develop young people and adults by:

  • Raising attainment
  • Extending aspiration and self-esteem
  • Developing independence through collaboration
  • Recognising the gifts and talents of all

 (ii) Develop learning communities through:

  • Providing schools that are challenging, creative and caring
  • Promoting education as central to the community
  • Widening participation and access
  • Supporting those at risk
  • Raising aspiration through partnership and involvement
  • Promoting Lifelong learning
