Unitary authorities
A unitary authority is an authority providing a single tier of local government administration.
The Metropolitan Borough of Wirral was created in the 1974 local government re-organisation – when it became part of Merseyside.
Wirral is now the third largest metropolitan authority in the northwest. The Council is divided into 22 wards represented by 66 members.
