Welcome To Wirral

Current Mayor

Andrew Chapman Hodson was born in 1957 in Liverpool where he resided for three years before his family moved to Pensby on the Wirral in 1960.

Current Mayor - Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral (09/10)

Andrew went to Greenbank Primary School and on to Pensby Secondary Modern School for Boys before finishing his education at Carlett Park.

Andrew left his full time education in 1977 and began his employment with the Department of Health & Social Security when after three years he had a change of direction and joined Johnson Brothers Cleaning and Dyers in their sales and marketing department before moving to Progressive Cleaning Services based in St Helens.

Having worked within the cleaning and facility management business for thirty three years Andrew is now the Managing Director and owner of Entire Facility Management Services employing some 420 people throughout the North West, and although committed to his company, Andrew always ensures he commits enough time to his role as a councillor.

Kathryn was born in Bromborough in 1959 and was educated at Woodsley Primary and Wirral Grammar School for Girls and then Carlett Park studying business studies before finishing her education and commencing her working life with British Home Stores. After two years she decided to join the Abbey National where she became a branch manager.  After 20 years she decided to leave to join Andrew in his business and also assist him with his political career.

Andrew has many interests which include clay pigeon shooting, reading and spending as much time as possible on his narrow boat with Kathy and their dog. He has in the past held a scout leader’s warrant for ten years when he was involved with the 1st Heswall and also the 3rd Heswall Scouts. As a teenager he was part of the Methodist youth group which formed and ran the ORION Club, a youth club for people with learning difficulties based in Heswall.

Andrew held the post as chair of governors for six years at Hayfield special needs school.

Andrew and Kathy married in 1998 and they live in Heswall. Andrew has three children, Sophie, Leon and Andrew and also a granddaughter Ellie.

Although always interested in politics, it was the outcry towards the building of a large supermarket in Heswall which helped Andrew to decide to get involved in local politics. Andrew first stood for Council in 1994 when he won and held his seat to this day.  In fourteen years as a councillor he has served as spokesman on Leisure Services, Property Services, Street Scene and also Chairman of Licensing when he helped Wirral Borough Council through the difficult period of the introduction of the 2003 Licensing Act.

Andrew and Kathy are delighted that they have been chosen as the 36th Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral and both are looking forward to their year in office.

Their chosen charities are Claire House. Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution – Wirral.

The Mayor’s theme this year is to highlight the work of volunteer workers in the community and also spotlight Wirral’s youth.
