Wirral's Family Safety Unit is a central point of access for individuals and their children experiencing domestic violence.

Wirral's Family Safety Unit will provide a central point of access for individuals and their children experiencing domestic violence in the Wirral area.
The principle aims of the FSU are two fold:
- To help victims gain safety from Domestic Violence/Abuse
- To co-ordinate agencies to provide a package of support depending upon need and or risk.
Wirral's Family Safety Unit will either provide or co-ordinate:
- Advice
- Caseworker Support/Domestic Violence Independent Advisor
- Sign posting to specialist counselling services
- Legal Services
- Advice in relation to housing
- Advice with refuge provision
- Co-ordination of target hardening.
- Collection of evidence.
In this way, individuals experiencing domestic violence/abuse will be provided with an effective, immediate and consistent range of support services at one referral point or "One Stop Shop"
Access to this service can be made by contacting Wirral's Family Safety Unit directly or through referral or signposting by one of the many statutory or voluntary organizations e.g. Wirral Health Trust, Social Services, Police, Victim Support, wirral Partnership Homes, Education Social Welfare, Children and Young Persons Department.
Wirral's Multi Agency Risk Assessment Committee - MARAC
The aims of a MARAC:
- Share information within the agreed protocol
- Co-ordinate, support and action all responses to incidents of domestic Violence/Abuse.
- Wirral's MARAC is a formal conference to facilitate the risk assessment process(s)and exists to report /respond to incidents of very high risk domestic violence/abuse thereafter jointly constructing a management plan to provide professional support to all those at risk.
MARAC meetings are held on a monthly basis ( sooner if a case requires urgent attention
The purpose is for Agencies to share information with a view to identifying those at very high level of risk from Domestic Violence/Abuse and thereafter jointly constructing a management plan to provide professional support to all those at risk.
Wirral's Family Safety Unit will facilitate and co-ordinate the actions/support identified through MARAC Meetings.
Key drivers of this work:
- Reduce the prevalence of Domestic Violence/Abuse
- Increase the rate that Domestic Violence/Abuse is reported.
- Ensure victims of Domestic Violence/Abuse are adequately protected and supported.
