If we marry aborad can we have one of these Ceremonies?
Yes, many couples who get married abroad choose to renew their marriage vows in a special event held for family and friends on their return.
What does the Ceremony include?
The Renewal of Marriage Vows Ceremony is as individual as the couple arranging the celebration. The ceremony can be used to acknowledge any children of the marriage, include reading(s), renewal of vows, re-dedication of rings or giving of new rings or gifts and include a speech from other wedding guests ie best man etc.
No, the ceremonies have no legal status and are purely ceremonial.
The couple together or one of the married parties can arrange a ceremony as a surprise – unlike a Marriage/Civil Partnership this is possible as it is not a legal ceremony.
The ceremony usually lasts about 15-30 minutes depending on the readings and number of options you select.
Will we receive a certificate?
Yes, at the end of the ceremony the couple will be asked by the celebrant to come forward and sign a Record of Renewal of Marriage Vows Cerificate which will be presented to them.
Do we have to produce any documents?
Yes, a copy of the Marriage Certificate must be produced when booking the ceremony.
The Ceremony is conducted by a fully trained professional celebrant from your Local Authority.
Where can the Ceremony be held?
The ceremony can be held at either Wirral Register Office (Birkenhead Town Hall) or Wallasey Town Hall. Ceremonies can also be held at venues in Wirral licensed for Civil Weddings or Civil Partnerships or at other venues like sports and social clubs or community halls (only if agreed with celebrant).
How much notice do we need to give?
As the ceremonies are non-statutory (they have no legal status) there is no set time limit – only enough time to compose the ceremony and organise a celebrant to attend – approximately 3 – 4 weeks.
No, you can live anywhere in the country but if you want a Renewal of Vows Ceremony in another district, you will have to contact the Local Authority where the celebration is to take place.
Please telephone for details of our current fees.
What time can we have the Ceremony?
At Wirral Register Office/Wallasey Town Hall, the ceremonies will be held Monday to Friday during the morning from 0900 hours until 1130 hours and in the afternoon from 1400 hours to 1530 hours. Saturday morning only until 1230 hours.
At Approved Premises/Licenced Venues times are more flexible and can be held up to early evening (to be agreed with celebrant).
How can we arrange to book a Ceremony?
Please telephone Wirral Register Office on 666 4096 – Monday to Friday. For Approved Premises/Licenced Venues – please check availability with venue first before contacting us. A list of Approved Premises is available upon request.
