Welcome To Wirral

Race Equality Scheme

The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 is the Government’s legislative response to the inquiry and places general and specific duties on public authorities to promote race equality and prevent unlawful discrimination.

Wirral's revised Scheme for 2005-2008 has been devised in partnership with members of the local Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities (see section 6 of the document) and we will continue to engage with the BME community throughout the life of the scheme to ensure it is ‘brought to life’ for the benefit of local people.

We are currently preparing a Single Equality Scheme and therefore have extended the existing scheme until the end of March 2009.
