During the course of a year they respond to on average 10,000 incidents, ranging from alarm activation, burglary and criminal damage. 4,500 of these incidents relate to incidents of antisocial behaviour.
Officers work alone, in often, difficult circumstances, dealing with incidents that have either been reported or have encounter during routine patrols. Over the years, officers have prevented several serious arson attacks on schools by taking emergency action have prevented further damage to council property.
Under new proposals Wirral Community Patrol officers will have closer links with Merseyside Police and will be asked to undertake a similar role to that of a Community Support Officer.
