Welcome To Wirral

Road traffic accidents

Wirral has a good transport network, however a closure of a major route such as the M53 or the Mersey tunnels, can result in Wirral becoming snarled up very quickly. More so because Wirral is a major route to and from both Liverpool and Chester.

Remote traffic information signals are placed across the borough and can alert drivers to road closures as soon as we become aware of a problem. We work closely with Merseyside and Cheshire Police in the event of road accidents and road closures and via the police press office and council press office, we communicate as much information to the public as possible as soon as possible via local radio and television.

Any major incidents will be posted on the Wirral Council homepage www.wirral.gov.uk

Listen out for major road closures and other emergency information on Wirral’s local radio stations:

Radio City 96.7 FM
Radio Merseyside 95.8 FM
Wirral’s Buzz 97.1 FM
