Benefit
This page explains Council Tax Benefit for people on lncome Support, Job Seekers Allowance or low incomes.
Council Tax Benefit of up to 100 per cent (the whole bill) is available for people responsible for Council Tax bills who are on Income Support, Job Seeker's Allowance or low incomes. The amount of benefit you get depends on the amount of your Council Tax bill, your income and savings and on your personal circumstances - for example, whether you have children and how many, or whether you have a disability.
If you are a liable person but do not qualify for Council Tax Benefit because your income is too high, you may still be able to claim if someone living with you (but not a spouse or partner or lodger), is on Income Support or low income. This type of Council Tax Benefit is called a Second Adult Rebate.
If you want to claim help with paying your Council Tax bill, complete the appropriate benefit application form. If you have a partner, they do not need to complete a form. Application forms are available from Council Offices.
